Every notebook or desktop or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software that interacts with the computer hardware, including peripherals such as a mouse and a printer, together with any applications that are present on the system. Any program input through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a server, each app runs within the parameters defined by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etcetera. This is valid for both standard site scripts and server-side software such as a media server. In case a virtual server is created on a physical one, there can be two different Operating Systems, called guest OS and host OS, so that you will be able to set up a different software environment on a single machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We offer three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers
- Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are some of the safest and the most reliable OSs out there and we offer all three of them instead of only 1 since we realize that you might want to install some software with specific requirements with regards to the Operating System it will run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a huge support community behind it and there are various software packages you can install on the web hosting server. Your OS selection will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS in case you want to use one and because of this we offer several Control Panels as well. If you ever decide that you need to have some other OS, our technical support can quickly wipe the existing one and install the one that you want. In addition, we offer an optional service to keep the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
The dedicated server
packages that we offer come with three different Operating Systems to choose from. They are all Linux release - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license fees, but they are also regarded as the most reliable and secure OSs. We provide three different ones for the reason that each of them is backed by a separate community. The packages that you could add on your hosting server are different and this could matter if you want to install some piece of software with particular requirements regarding the hosting environment. In this light, the internet hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server also depends on the Operating System that you will pick. You can select any of the three Operating Systems throughout the order process, but if needed, we can always install the server anew with an alternative one upon your request. As an optional service that you can add to the package any time, we can update your OS regularly in order to keep it as secure as possible.
