An access log is a thorough list of all the files which were accessed by the guests of a particular Internet site. Any file which was requested for some reason shall be listed, so if you have just one webpage with 3 embedded pictures, one video and one embedded text file, as an example, the access log shall contain a total of 6 entries - one for any of the 6 files that were accessed when the site visitor opened the webpage. A log typically contains the file name and path, the date, in addition to the visitor’s Operating System, Internet browser and IP address. In some cases you could also find the referrer sites that sent the visitors to your website. The information which an access log file contains is in human-readable plain text format. It can be processed by special software on a personal computer and used to prepare reports on the overall performance of a site, besides the web stats which your hosting server may have created.
Access Log Manager in Shared Web Hosting
Our in-house built Hepsia CP has a section focused on various logs and the access logs are among them. As soon as you sign in to your shared web hosting
account and go to this section, you shall find a list of all the domains
and subdomains which you have. All it takes to enable the generation of access logs is to click on a button which will be available next to every domain/subdomain. In case the option is active, you shall see a download link and also the file size so far, so you will be able to save the file to your personal computer and look at it or process it with some program. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect right away, so if you don't need one, you can stop it with only a click from the same section of the Control Panel. You will still be able to access the already generated content by simply clicking on the Download link.
Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers
Our advanced web hosting platform shall generate access logs for any site hosted inside a semi-dedicated server
account, as long as this function is activated. All domains and subdomains that you have will be listed in the Access/Error Logs section of the Hepsia Control Panel, that we offer with all the accounts, so if you would like our system to start producing logs for each of them, you should just click on the compact button on the right side of the respective domain/subdomain and change the default Off option to On. You may deactivate this feature at any time by following the exact same steps. You will find a Download link for each log within the same exact section of the CP, so you can save the content gathered by our system in .txt format with only a mouse click. An existing log file could be downloaded even after the function has been deactivated, so you'll still be able to see the data that has already been generated.
